Cheektowaga Native Seeks Music Award

Lisa Racki Barrett, a local singer/songwriter, has been nominated for the second consecutive year in the 2014 Clay’s Country Music Awards for Best Female Artist. Barrett, a Cheektowaga native and 1986 graduate of Cheektowaga Central High School, is grateful to the fans for voting her into the top spot last year and would like to make it two in a row. She’s asking for help again in the all fan-based voting contest sponsored by Clays Country Radio. To vote, visit www.clayscountry.com and click on “Vote Here in the 2014 awards.” Visitors may vote once daily per IP address through Sept. 30. Barrett took first place in another international contest two years ago with her original song, “When You Look at Me,” which she wrote in honor of her nephew, Austin, who died of cancer before his second birthday. While she grew up performing in church groups and high school musicals, “When You Look at Me” was her first experience writing a song. Since then, she has recorded an album by the same name in Nashville.
