MEDINA — Shop ’til you drop is what Medina Lions are hoping everyone will do on Saturday.

The day marks the 12th year for Medina’s Community Yard Sale, which was an idea brought to a Lions’ meeting by member Sherry Wheatley.

Since the first one, the event has been an overwhelming success, which Lions President Don Colquhoun is a credit to all the planning Wheatley does for these sales.

Wheatley is an avid “yard saler” herself and she knows what shoppers want.

“We just want to find what we want and get on to the next yard,” she said.

The sale runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Lions members will be on the four corners of downtown Medina early to hand out maps of participating homes.

Vendor space is still available at Olde Pickle Factory for $25 and anyone interested may call Wheatley at (585) 798-3358.

The Lions will also sponsor a chicken barbecue from 11 a.m. until sold out at the Pickle Factory. Barbecue tickets may be ordered in advance by calling Jim Hancock at (585) 798-2118.

The Pickle Factory will also be the site of a giant flea market, featuring more than 50 vendors.

“A Buffalo vendor told me last year this is the best sale he attends,” Wheatley said...

The sale is one of the Lions’ biggest fundraisers. Their money funds donations to Medina Health Care Foundation, the Arc of Orleans, Orleans Red Cross, Cornell Cooperative Extension and scholarships to students who major in some form of what Lions promote.

They give to United Way, New York State Speech and Hearing Clinic and Medina Area Association of Churches food pantry. They also supply eyeglasses to needy individuals and fund diabetes and glaucoma testing and substance abuse education in public schools...
