Revolutionary War Returns to Old Fort Niagara

The American Revolution returns to Old Fort Niagara and American and British forces are vying for your support. Old Fort Niagara hosts a Revolutionary War Encampment on October 9 & 10.

Beginning at 10am both days, Revolutionary War re-enactors will portray both British and American forces, offering musket and artillery demonstrations throughout the day. At 1pm each day, kids and their parents will be recruited for a mock battle by either the Patriots or the British forces.

Celebration to Honor Nationally Known Legendary Santa Claus

Albion will host a celebration of the Life and Legend of Charles W. Howard on September 25, 2010.

ALBION, N.Y. - (PRWEB) The small village of Albion has a very rich history of unique people and places, but none are as colorful as the story of a farmer turned professional St. Nick. Charles W. Howard was a resident of the community for over 69 years. He belonged to many civic organizations, served on many social committees, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Seventy-five years ago, November 1935, Howard took a step with fate and officially embarked on a career as Santa Claus in a Rochester department store.

Writing With Light Student Exhibition

Just Buffalo Literary Center and CEPA Gallery are pleased to announce the 3rd Annual Writing With Light Student Exhibition. A celebratory reception will be held on Friday, September 10, 2010 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at CEPA Gallery in the Market Arcade building, 617 Main Street, Buffalo.

Featuring selected works from Just Buffalo & CEPA Gallery’s education programs from the past year, the exhibit will display work from Picturing Poetry, Writer Residencies, and Bookmaking projects.

Writing With Light reached more than 3,500 K-12 students across the region this year, and its emphasis on intensive one-on-one contact between teaching artists and students yields powerful creative results. 

Genevieve DeCarlo, a 3rd grade teacher at Discovery School, P.S. 67 explains, "It was amazing to see the growth of my students... All children should be able to have this awesome learning experience!"

Orleans County Rotary Derby in August

For the 24th year in a row, the Rotary Club will hold a fishing derby on Lake Ontario.

The 2010 installment of the event will take place from August 7th until August 22nd.

Prizes will be awarded in four major categories: Salmon, Rainbow/Steelhead, Brown Trout and Lake Trout.

Grand Prize for the overall biggest fish is $4,000.

Orleans County Community Day

The annual Orleans County Community day will take place on Saturday, August 14th from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The event will be held at the community health center at 200 Ohio Street in Medina.
