Daemen Athletic Training Program Granted Continued Accreditation | News
Daemen College’s Professional Master’s Athletic Training Program, one of only two accredited programs in New York State, has received continuing accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). The 10-year accreditation is the maximum term available to institutions.
Established in 2008, Daemen’s athletic training program previously received an initial five-year accreditation, which is also the maximum granted for a first-time accredited program.
“Receiving this national accreditation is a testament to our program’s level of excellence and our commitment to the high standards that CAATE represents,” said Dr. Michael Brogan, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college. “Our committed faculty provide students an exceptional education and advanced professional preparation that is essential to pursuing a career in the athletic training field.”
Reaccreditation of Daemen’s athletic training program followed an in-depth self-study process and an on-site visit to ensure the college meets 109 nationally recognized standards set by the CAATE. In granting continuing accreditation to the college,
“The Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education recognizes the faculty, staff, and administrators at Daemen College for their commitment to the advancement of education in athletic training, as well as your dedication to the preparation of qualified athletic training professionals.”
Dr. Nicole Chimera, athletic training program director and associate professor, said, “We are excited to be granted CAATE reaccreditation, which marks a pivotal accomplishment for our athletic training program. Our talented faculty, strong curriculum, and range of clinical experiences have all contributed to the success and quality of our program.”
To become a certified athletic trainer, a student must graduate with a degree from an accredited professional athletic training education program and pass the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Board of Certification exam. In 2016, Daemen athletic training graduates earned a 100 percent first-time pass rate on the exam, far surpassing the national average of 83 percent. What’s more, all of the most recent program graduates have secured employment in the field.
The CAATE oversees the accreditation of professional level athletic training programs offered at institutions across the United States, and verifies that all CAATE-accredited programs meet the acceptable educational standards for professional athletic training education.
